A ZAOGA Forward in Faith (FIF) overseer has been fired following serious allegations of misconduct, including fathering two children with female congregants and exploiting widows.

Joel Chinhema, who served in Bindura, was relieved of his duties last week amid accusations of adultery and embezzlement of church funds.

Allegations and Dismissal

Chinhema’s termination was executed by the church’s board of Bishops, a disciplinary committee comprised of ten senior bishops based at the church’s headquarters in Waterfalls, Harare.

According to sources, Chinhema faced multiple charges, including fraud and embezzlement.

Reports indicate that he confessed to his extramarital affairs during a meeting with the board, leading to his dismissal.

“It’s disheartening that a man many looked up to as a father failed to lead an exemplary life,” a source remarked.

“Baba Chinhema has been dismissed after admitting to impregnating two women from the congregation.”

Despite being married, Chinhema reportedly neglected his responsibilities both to his family and to the church’s principles encapsulated in its motto, “Fear Not, Sin Not.”

Furthermore, it has been alleged that he targeted vulnerable women within the congregation, including widows and young girls seeking spiritual guidance.

Reports of Sexual Harassment

In addition to the allegations of infidelity, the church received complaints from a single woman who claimed she was sexually harassed by Chinhema after he sent her explicit photos in an attempt to lure her into an inappropriate relationship.

These actions have prompted further scrutiny of Chinhema’s behavior and the culture within the church.

Chinhema has been ordered to vacate church property in Bindura and return the official vehicle he was using.

The fallout from this scandal has raised concerns about systemic issues within ZAOGA’s leadership structure.

Culture of Corruption and Exploitation

This incident has reignited long-standing worries about corruption and immorality among ZAOGA leaders.

Allegations have surfaced that some senior pastors exploit their positions to prey on congregants, particularly targeting pastors’ wives in exchange for promotions or favorable assignments.

Reports suggest that promotions within ZAOGA have become transactional; aspiring overseers allegedly pay substantial sums for their positions, undermining merit-based appointments.

This culture has led to frustration among non-compromising pastors who feel compelled to leave the church due to these unethical practices.

Church Leadership Responds

When approached for comments by H-Metro, ZAOGA’s Secretary-General Apostle Mishael Nyambo referred inquiries to his deputy Apostle Steve Simukai, who could not be reached for comment.

Chinhema himself also declined to provide any statements regarding the allegations against him.

As this story develops, it highlights the urgent need for accountability and reform within ZAOGA’s leadership to restore trust among its congregants and ensure that such misconduct is not tolerated in the future.
