Djokovic Apologizes for Hitting Line Judge

The 33 year old Novak Djokovic, who is a three time tournament winner has apologised for his actions which led to his disqualification from the US Open. the tournament after he accidentally hit a female judge.

It is said that the Serbian player, who was trailing 6-5 to the Spanish Pablo Carreno Busta accidentally hit a female line judge a result of anger during their fourth round match.

Deliberations between Tournament referee Soeren Friemel, Chair Empire Aurelie Tourte and Andress Egli, the Grand Slam Supervisor and the player were held and came to the conclusion that the Serbian was to be disqualified.

The governing body of tennis in America, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) released a statement confirming the default of the Serbian, “following his actions of intentionally hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court … with negligent disregard of the consequences.”

The USTA also wrote that, “he will lose all ranking points earned at the tournament and be fined the prize money he had already earned at the tournament. Djokovic could also face additional fines.”

According to the videos and photos circulating, the player was really touched by the scene as he quickly rushed to help the woman after realizing she had been hit around the neck or shoulder area.

The player later own issued an apology through his instagram account.

This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I‘m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong. I need to go back within and work on my disappointment and turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and human being.
