Zimbabwean government is very optimistic that CAF will pardon the country and be able to allow Warriors to host Algeria on the home soil ahead of the AFCON qualifier match scheduled for November.
Zimbabwe’s stadiums have been condemned by CAF for hosting international matches on the bases of failing to meet a number of requirements for hosting international matches.
There was a delegation led by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation comprising of Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to inspect the progress made on the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium.
We are very happy with the progress and the work that has been done so far, “said the Deputy Minister of Sports Tinomudaishe Machakaire after touring the stadium.
“We have been severely affected by the Covid-19 lockdown, and we weren’t able to procure some of the material needed for the renovations,” he added.
He further elaborated that; “we have already resumed work, and it looks very promising, and we hope CAF will allow the stadium to host the match against Algeria in November.”
“At the moment, I can’t state in certain terms whether we will be able to install bucket seats around the stadium before the Algeria game, but we will try to push towards that end,” said Machakaire.
