Hichilema Calls for Unity as He Wraps Up Traditional Ceremonies for 2024 

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has concluded his attendance at traditional ceremonies for the year 2024, marking a significant engagement with the nation’s cultural leaders.

His final visit was to the Lwiindi Chuundu traditional ceremony of the Leya people in Southern Province, where he expressed his commitment to fostering unity among the country’s traditional leaders.

A Historic Gathering of Chiefs

During this last engagement, President Hichilema was joined by 63 traditional leaders from across Zambia, a record turnout that delighted him.

He emphasized the importance of these gatherings in promoting unity and understanding among chiefs from different regions.

“Now that the chiefs have come to know each other from all corners of our nation—South, North, East, West, and Central—they must use this knowledge to respect and appreciate one another.

It is essential that they exalt this unity to their subjects across the country,” he stated.

The Importance of Unity for Development

In his address, President Hichilema underscored that a united front among traditional leaders is vital for national development.

He remarked, “When the country is united, development becomes easier to achieve.

On the platform of unity, peace, and security, we shall deliver development across the country.”

The President’s call for collaboration resonated with many attendees, as he encouraged chiefs to be ambassadors of unity within their communities.

Recognition from Traditional Leaders

Chiefs and other stakeholders praised President Hichilema for his dedication in attending ceremonies across all 10 provinces, regardless of tribal affiliations.

Chief Nalubamba of Namwala district commended the President’s efforts and wished him well as he prepares for next year’s events.

Evans Fenete, chairperson of the 2024 Lwiindi ceremony, expressed gratitude for Hichilema’s leadership qualities.

“This showcases your excellent leadership skills. We thank you for respecting traditional leaders and for resolving succession disputes that previously embarrassed us,” Fenete said.
