No Karikoga for Zanu-PF’s Gokwe District Coordinating Committee

Prominent Gokwe Mapfungautsi legislator, Tawanda Karikoga was a surprise notable absentee on the name list announced by the Zanu-PF Midlands Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) for members who have been admitted to the upcoming District Coordinating Committee (DCC) election.

The announcement paves the way for aspirants to campaign for the elections to be held on a date to be announced. Over 90 resumes have been accepted, while 26 résumés for prospective Zanu-PF DCC members have been removed.

Gokwe Nembudziya constituency lawmaker, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena, will become Gokwe District DCC chairman after securing the post unhindered after his alleged candidate was eliminated prior to the final list being announced.

Other notable names that made the list include Cde Tafanana Zhou, who oversees the post of Mberengwa District Chairman, and Cde Kandros Mugabe, who oversees Kwekwe District Secretary for the Treasury.

Some members from his district said he could not run from South Africa.

Zanu-PF Midlands Province spokesman Cde Cornelius Mupereri said those who made the approved list of candidates can lead the party and help mobilize its members.

All systems for DCC elections in Midlands Zanu-PF are envisaged after members are announced who have made it onto the final list after provincial and national review. In the process, 26 members were eliminated from the competition excluded, “he said.

We want members who are able to advance the party’s vision to win the 2023 elections and advance the 2030 vision.

Cde Mupereri said that after the names of the emerging candidates were announced, campaigns in the province are now allowed.

We are now done with our review process. The comrades announced today can now begin the campaign. The campaign is now in full swing. Those who didn’t make it should work with those who made it. We have also received some reports from party members which we believe are factual and which will be submitted to the Politburo for consideration, “he said.

The reports claim that some of the names that made the cut are not wanted by the districts as they are associated with G40.

Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, a member of the Zanu-PF Politburo, said the party is bigger than individuals, so there should be no imposition of leaders in the party. He urged members to maintain discipline during the elections.

These elections come and go and winners will always come out. Let’s not abuse the platform for personal results during this time. We need to understand that we are a family governed by the Zanu-PF Constitution. Whatever we do, we should remember that 2023 is coming and we must prepare to unite and make sure that our party wins the elections, “said Cde Mumbengegwi.

The director of the Chitepo School of Ideology, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, who oversaw the process, urged party members to be wary of G40 elements who are spending money to rig the DCC elections.

We have to stay vigilant and protect ourselves from G40 elements throwing money to rig the DCC elections. These elections need to put us in a stronger position to be in as we work to recruit more members before the 2023 elections, “he said.

The Zanu-PF is holding DCC elections in eight provinces after the processes in the metropolitan provinces of Harare and Bulawayo have been completed.

DCC structures were disbanded in 2012 after the party felt they were being used to promote division.

Zanu-PF’s first secretary, Mnangagwa, recently said the reintroduction of the DCCs must further strengthen party structures at the grassroots level.

In addition, the President stressed that the DCC elections and the upcoming by-elections must consolidate the party’s undeniable dominance and peaceful democratic culture.
