Misfiring Manchester United were punished by ruthless Crystal by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League match.
It did not take Palace 7 minutes to open their scoring account of the day as they snatched a lead through veteran Townsend’s well converted strike from Captain Zaha’s cross.
Though United dominated the match, claiming 76% of ball possession they could not break Palace’s defense.
As United were chasing for a response to restore the match to parity, Lindelof played a handball in the box resulting in a penalty given through Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which Ayew failed to convert.
The spot kick was retaken as VAR indicated that United short stopper had lifted his left leg from the line, and Zaha who then retook the penalty could not miss the opportunity.
In the 80th minute, Red Devils’ debutant Donny van De Beek found a consolation and as they were busy chasing for a draw, Zaha thwarted all hopes with his 85th minute strike which De Gea could not do any effort to stop it.
The Match ended 3 – 1 in favour of high spirited Palace and this brings reality check on Solskjaer who only made a single summer signing.
Manchester United will be visiting Brighton & Hove Albion next Saturday while Palace will be hosting Everton on the same day.
To wrap up today’s Premier League action, Arsenal are hosting West Ham at 2100 hours at Emirates stadium. The match will be live on Supersport Premier League channel.
