It is reported that an officer in charge from Hwange Police Station, Chief Inspector Samuel Tadzaushe whose retirement was set for the 11th of September (this Friday) has approached the High court challenging the decision.
Chief Inspector Tadzaushe argues that his emmediate boss, the officer commanding ZRP Matebeleland North, Assistant Commissioner Fredrick Mbengwa was abusing his power and begrudging his success which he has achieved.
Chief Inspector Tadzaushe who is said to have reached the retirement age said the rejection of his application for extension of services lacked merit.
Chief Inspector Tadzaushe blames Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga for following malicious recommendations by Ass Comm Mbengwa.
He said his bosses failed to take into account his personal socio-economic circumstances in light of the COVID-19 pandemic in arriving at the decision to retire him.
“I feel that my superiors should have considered and approved my application for extension of service because I have always been rated above average at annual inspections as an officer-in-charge at various stations,” lamented Tadzaushe.
He further stressed that “the fact that I do not have any conviction in terms of the Police Act Code of Discipline and that I have never been convicted of any criminal offence should have been considered.”
The fact that we are in serious situation of Covid-19 pandemic which has social and economic hardships should also have been considered. I have not reached the age of 55 years which under normal circumstances is the required age for a member not to be considered for extension of service.
Chief Inspector Tadzaushe was once accused of being part of a cartel that irritated a Chinese investor who intended to set up a sawmill in the district until they gave up.
He is also said to have been selling fuel on the black market.
