Four bogus policemen attacked a Marlborough family and robbed them huge sums of cash USD 47 000 and R15 000 where they tied them into their car and set the vehicle on fire before disappearing on Tuesday.

The family, Daniel Tsimba, wife Ropafadzo Mukamba and their seven year old daughter reportedly managed to escape by whisker as they managed to untie themselves and escaped unhurt from the burning vehicle which had been dumped at Kingston Farm in Beatrice.

Inspector Tendai Mwanza who is the Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson said the police was on the hunt of the gang and appealed to the public for any information that would help to identify them.

The police narration suggests that Mrs Mukamba who was at her house in Marlborough around 11 pm on Tuesday was approached by four men who pretended to be police officers who were investgarting a fraud case.

The men handcuffed her and made false allegations that they knew she had received money from her former employer before they force-marched her into her house where they waited for his husband Daniel Tsimba to arrive from work. As soon as Mr Tsimba arrived they pounced on him before demanding cash.

They ransacked the house and found US$47 000 and R15 000 plus two laptops and two Huawei cellphones, before forcing the family into the unregistered Honda Fit belonging to Mrs Mukamba.

They drove towards Beatrice and stopped at Kingston Farm.

At around 11pm, the robbers tied their victims with a rope on to the car seats, got out of the vehicle, and set it ablaze before running away.

When Beatrice police attended the scene, they found the shell of the burnt vehicle.
