Wolves Rub Salt on Soton’s Wounds

St Mary’s hosts, Southampton who have seen 5 premier league matches losses were hopeful to find their winning ways this afternoon when they hosted Wolves.

in the 25th minute of play, Danny Ings produced a prolific volley to award his home team a lead, an advantage which Hasenhuttl’s men enjoyed for the whole first half.

In the second half, things turned against the hosts when the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute of play when Ryan Bertrand blocked Nelson Semedo’s attempted cross with his arm.

The decision angered Hasenhuttl who blamed video refereeing for “destroying the game” as he was of the view that the Bertrand’s arm was on a natural position.

The VAR team called for the on-field referee to reconsider his initial decision to award a penalty kick which was wonderfully converted by Ruben Neves to bring the match to 1 all.

Thirteen minutes later, Pedro Neto produced a dazzling strike to earn visitors a win, rubbing more salt on hosts as they were to see a sixth successive Premier League loss.

Frustrated Hasenhuttl blasted VAR team lead team for their match, Atkinson for “not doing the good job.

The referee explained that the arm was stretched away from the body. But when the ball hit the arm it stretched the arm away for me,” added the fuming Southampton Manager.

Saints pressed for an equaliser but were thwarted by Wolves stopper Rui Patricio who made a double save from James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams.

Wolves go 12th in the Premier League table, a point and a place above Southampton.

What’s next?

Wolves host Leeds on Friday 2200 hours while Saints host Chelsea on Saturday 1430 hours.
