Zimbabwe COVID-19 Cases Hit 10,000 Mark

Zimbabwe’s COVID-19 cases surpassed the 10,000 mark after it reported 84 new cases on Monday, bringing the total to 10,034 cases since the first case was recorded on 20 March.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care says that of these cases, 8,489 have recovered while 277 deaths have been recorded.

The Ministry further notes with concern that the number of local transmissions have risen particularly in the month of November, raising fears of a deadly second wave.

Zimbabwe has lifted most of the lockdown restrictions as it seeks to rebuild the economy battered by a combination of recurring droughts, inflation, sanctions and corruption.

Borders, particularly those at Victoria Falls, Chirundu and Beitbridge, are set to reopen to the public today, 1 December, since their closure in late March.
