Equatorial Guinea is embroiled in a significant scandal following the leak of explicit videos involving high-ranking civil servant Baltasar Ebang Engonga. Vice-President Teodoro Obiang Mangue has announced a crackdown on inappropriate behavior in government offices.

Engonga, who leads the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), was already under investigation for corruption when the videos surfaced.

Reports indicate that over 400 explicit recordings were found during a raid linked to fraud allegations. These videos allegedly show Engonga engaging in sexual acts with various women, including the wives of prominent officials.

In response, Vice-President Mangue has mandated strict measures. He stated that any civil servants caught in sexual acts at work would face immediate suspension.

He described such behavior as a “flagrant violation” of the code of conduct. Additionally, he has ordered the installation of surveillance cameras in government offices to deter indecent conduct.

Public reaction has been swift. Many citizens are outraged by the behavior of public officials. The government is also taking steps to limit the spread of these videos online, instructing telecom companies to curb their dissemination.

This scandal raises serious questions about accountability within Equatorial Guinea’s government. With President Teodoro Obiang having ruled for over 45 years, this incident may lead to calls for greater transparency and reform.

As investigations continue, the fallout from this scandal is likely to unfold further. More details about Engonga’s actions and their implications for the country’s leadership are expected to emerge.
