Jason Machaya, the former Provincial Affairs Minister for Midlands who was facing charges of abuse fo office has been convicted and the court is expected to deliver the actual sentence tomorrow.
Machaya was convicted by the Gweru Provincial Magistrate, Charity Maphosa and was remanded in custody after found guilty of abuse of office.
The Former Gokwe Senator who was arrested on the 3rd of January 2018 and was out on ZWL1000 bail was facing allegations of unlawfully allocating and disposing of state land.
On the 17th of August, the former ZANU-PF Midlands Provincial chairman was issued with warrant of arrest after absconding court citing poor health conditions.
The final judgement on the matter was expected to have been delivered on the 17th of August.
Aleck Muchadehama, Machays’s legal representative later advised that the court had been advised that Machaya’s poor health condition could not allow him to stand before the court.
“The warrant you were talking about is merely administrative. We wrote to the court advising them that our client was unable to attend court due to a medical operation,” said Muchadehama.
He added that, “The court is aware that Machaya received the operation on August 8, and he needs at least 14 days to recover according to the doctors, we look forward to appear before the same court on September 22.”
