GOKWE, Zimbabwe – In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at elevating rural living standards, Spencer Tshuma, the legislator for the Kabuyuni Constituency, is leading the construction of Gokwe North’s first-ever state-of-the-art double-story mall in Nembudziya.

This ambitious project aligns with Zimbabwe’s National Vision 2030, which seeks to uplift rural areas to urban standards.

Nearing Completion

Construction of the mall commenced in late 2024 and is now nearing completion, with only final touches such as paving, tiling, and painting remaining.

In an interview with the Chronicle, Tshuma expressed his vision for transforming Gokwe and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

“The target is to bring about change in Gokwe and raise rural areas to urban standards,” he stated.

The mall will feature only the second bank in Nembudziya, significantly improving access to essential financial services for local villagers.

This addition follows the longstanding presence of CBZ Bank, with other institutions like AFC and ZB Banks showing interest in occupying space within the new facility.

Economic Impact and Accessibility

“The building is now 90% complete; what is left is beautifying the place,” Tshuma explained.

“We are determined to create a fully inclusive shopping mall where various services will be provided. Products usually found in urban areas will be sold at affordable prices, with us controlling the pricing.”

The introduction of a bank is expected to simplify financial transactions for community members, particularly parents managing school fees.

“The bank will make it easier for parents to pay fees and for residents to send and receive money without traveling long distances,” he added.

Future Plans: Expanding Development Efforts

Looking ahead, Tshuma revealed plans to shift focus from the Nembudziya Mall project to a new venture in Kadoma.

“We are pushing out the Nembudziya project as we are starting another important venture in Kadoma. To us, this one is complete,” he stated confidently.

This mall follows Tshuma’s earlier success with Spencer Fuels, a fuel station launched in early 2024 adjacent to the construction site.

The station offers petrol, diesel, and LPG gas at competitive prices, addressing fuel shortages and price inconsistencies in the region.

“I saw the struggles of motorists and surrounding communities with fuel availability. The station is there to offer consistent, reliable services,” he noted.

Community Support and Recognition

Edson Chakanyuka Chiherenge, Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairperson, commended Tshuma for his efforts to transform Gokwe North.

“Honourable Tshuma’s work is putting Gokwe North on the map. His projects are attracting the youth to love Gokwe and providing much-needed employment,” he remarked.

This development is helping reshape Gokwe’s reputation for underdevelopment while aligning with national aspirations for progress under Vision 2030.

Tshuma’s initiatives are revolutionizing the region, fostering local development, and ensuring that Gokwe North moves closer to achieving urban standards while realizing Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 goals.

As the mall nears completion, it stands as a testament to community resilience and ambition in driving economic growth in rural Zimbabwe.
