Tension is running high in Nelson Chamisa led MDC-Alliance in Midlands following reports that some Chamisa allies recently secretly met with MDC-T leader Thokhozani Khupe.

Some councillors at Kwekwe City Council met with Khupe where they pleaded with her not to be recalled though the councillors interviewed referred all the questions to the party’s leadership.

Sources alleged that some attendees of the meeting who met Khupe are former MP Blessing Chebundo, Councillors Erick Rukavhairo, Silas Mukaro, Betty Ndlovu and Melody Chingarande and former Midlands North Provincial Chairperson Sedwell Bhebhe.

Sources said Khupe came to Kwekwe on the invitation of Chebundo and used Khayalethu Gardens which belongs to Kwekwe Mayor Angeline Kasipo as the venue for the meetings.

Bhebhe in a written statement confirmed the meeting with Khupe.

MDC-T Midlands North Province 2014 Chairman met with MDC-T acting president Madam Khupe on 25 October 2020 in Kwekwe.

The meeting followed the first Midlands North 2014 Structures/EOC delegates held at the Kwekwe party offices on 17 October 2020, where structures were informed and resolved that the province will abide and participate in the SC judgement,” Bhebhe said.

Chebundo could not confirm if he met with Khupe or has abandoned MDC Allliance leader Nelson Chamisa for Khupe but he instead said he was going to attend the Extra Ordinary Congress.

For me the question does not arise. What I know is that I am going to attend the Extra Ordinary Congress as a 2014 executive member,” he said.

MDC Alliance Midlands provincial spokesperson Takavafira Zhou could neither deny or confirm the said meeting.

It’s a contested view but it would seem someone misled our members that the meeting was sanctioned by our party,” Zhou said.

He however, said the issue has since been resolved.

“The issue has since been resolved and our members are aware that willingness to attend Extra Ordinary Congress does not resonate with accommodating Zanu PF project fronted by parochialists of Khupe and Mwonzora calibre.

We are also clear as MDC Alliance that being an MP and Councillor is more of providing service and self sacrifice. Self centered leaders will not be tolerated in MDC Alliance.

Our grassroot support remains solid and intact. We certainly wish all those who are so eager to serve their personal interests or associate with Komichists, Mwonzoraists and Khupeist to come clear as politics has freedom to associate and dissociate with one’s party of choice,” he said.

Zhou said the Midlands Province was in support of Chamisa.

In Kwekwe, three Councillors have since joined Khupe and these are Joshua Tinago, Mercy Ranga and Future Titora.
