Former Arsenal goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez who moved to Aston Villa at the start of the current season produced an outstanding performance as he contributed to Aston Villa’s first ever top flight double over the Gunners in 28 years.

Breaking the record could not take the home team 2 minutes (actually 74 seconds) from a which was started by Martinez which led to Bertrand Traore pouncing on a mistake by Cedric Soares before Ollie Watkins scored with a shot that deflected off Rob Holding.

The match was a debut to the Arsenal goalkeeper, Ryan whom they signed from Brighton on loan during the January transfer window who started in place of suspended first choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The 28 year old tried to prove his capabilities as he produced a superb save to deny Traore a goal on his return to Villa Side.

Martinez, who was in pursuit of the 11th clean sheet frustrated his former club further when the Argentine produced an excellent save to keep out Granit Xhaka’s free-kick.

Arsenal who came from a mid-week loss to Wolves have remained 10th with 31 points pending results for other teams like Leeds who are 11th with 29 points.

On the other hand, Villa moved above Tottenham to eighth and closed to within three points of fifth spot and five points of forth spot.

Both teams have a full week to prepare for their next Premier League matches. Aston Villa visit Brighton next Saturday and Arsenal host Leeds on Sunday, 14 February.
