Scotch Accidents Claim Two Lives on Separate Occasions 

Two people one from Nyazura and the other from Odzi died after their scotch carts overturned and trapped them on sport.

The Nyazura incident was confirmed by Insoector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa who is the Spokesperson for the Manicaland Province.

Kakohwa said that a 15 year old girl who was in accompany of her Uncle Mavhuna collecting tobacco bailing box around 10am had their scotch cart which was not controlled ran off the road and hit an anthill before it overturned.

The now deceased Farai Njagu of Village 5B Nyadzonya in Nyazura is said to have sustained head injuries  which then took her life right on the spot.

Inspector Kakohwa said, “Along the way, the scotch cart moved off the road and hit the anthill and overturned hitting Njangu on the head. She sustained some head injuries and died on the spot”.

The mater was reported to Nyazura police station.

On another sad incident, a 40 year old Odzi man from Nyamajura village died after a scotch cart overturned and trapped him.

The now deceased, Albert Matiza who was also using an uncontrolled ox drawn cart was in accompanied by a 15 year old when the accident happened around 1830 hours on their way to his tobacco field.

On their way, the scotch cart ran over a stone which was in the middle of the road and it overturned once before crushing the deceased’s head.

“The deceased sustained several injuries and died on the spot. The juvenile escaped unhurt. He rushed and informed the deceased’s father Honest Matiza, 58, who reported the matter at Odzi police station,” said Kakohwa.

The police spokesperson urged citizens to ensure that oxen pulling scotch carts were controlled to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
