Zimbabwean international, Marvelous Nakamba who is plying his trades in England for Aston Villa FC had given up his number 11 jersey ahead of the  2020/21 season which is to start on the 12th of September.

According to the announcement by Aston Villa, the midfielder who commanded the number 11 jersey since his arrival at Villa Park will don 19 whilst his number 11 will be given to new arrival, former Brentford striker, Ollie Watkins.

The £28m club record signing who has reunited with his former coach at Brentford, requested the number 11 since it is the one which he used to don through his stay at Brentford since his arrival in 2017 from Exeter City.

Aston Villa said “Marvelous Nakamba has kindly agreed to let Watkins take his preferred No.11 following his arrival from Brentford, the number that he wore throughout his three years at Griffin Park”

“The Zimbabwean midfielder will subsequently take the No.19 shirt during the upcoming campaign, which was last worn by Borja Baston,” said the club.

Aston Villa were set to meet Manchester City on the 12th of September in their 2020/21 Premier League opening match but the match was rescheduled to a date to be advised as Manchester City were given extra time off before their first game given their extended run in the UEFA Champions league last season.
